A nationally recognized breast cancer surgeon showcased Viver Health’s reach and influence during her speech to fellow physicians about the prevention of breast cancer from a lifestyle modification perspective. Beth DuPree, MD, FACS, ABIHM, demonstrated the impact of the Viver Guides to clinicians at the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) annual conference. She is the Vice President at Holy Redeemer Health System and Medical Director of the Breast Health Program in suburban Philadelphia.

In her speech to about 1,500 attendees at the 2015 ASBS conference in Orlando, Florida, Dr. DuPree explained that scientific studies had showed an increased risk of breast cancer recurrence among overweight or obese patients. In contrast, however, lifestyle modifications such as eating fruits and vegetables and exercising regularly were associated with a reduced risk of cancer recurrence or spread.

“A disease created by lifestyle can’t be cured without lifestyle modifications,” Dr. DuPree told audience members, adding that she hands her patients a simple nutrition guide to help steer their efforts accordingly. “We really don’t know enough about nutrition in this country as physicians.”

Dual board-certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine, Dr. DuPree trains young breast surgical fellows in the art and science of breast care. In 2007, she founded The Healing Consciousness Foundation (HCF), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for those at high risk for or diagnosed with breast cancer through holistic healing modalities, education and lifestyle changes.
